Whizardy Witch and The Treasure Map Whizardy Witch is always whizzing around. She is the fastest witch in the Land of Magic. “Zoomedy zoom, let’s go broom,” she squeals, making her broomstick go faster. Whiz, and off she whizzes. One day, Whizardy Witch was putting on her favourite red and green play suit and stripy tights. Suddenly, the wind blew a sheet of paper through her bedroom window. “What’s this,” she said, looking at it. On the paper was a map with a big ‘X’ in the middle. Also, there were words written in a language she did not know. She ex- citedly rushed to find mum to show her. “Look Mum, I think I’ve found a secret treasure map!” said Whizardy Witch excitedly. Mum looked at the words and screwed up her nose. “I don’t know what this says Whiz,” said mum. “You need a translation spell, to change the words into magic speech so we can read it.” “Where would I get one of those?” asked Whizardy Witch. “Go and ask Dad, he’s sure to know.” Whizardy Witch called to her broom, climbed on, and shouted the magic words, “Zoomedy zoom, let’s go broom.” Whiz, and off she whizzed. “Not too fast Whizardy,” shouted mum after her. Too late, Whizardy Witch was already whizzing off to find her dad. He was at work in the Magic Castle. The fields and the meadows flew by as Whizardy Witch sped across the spring countryside heading for the tall Magic Castle. She whizzed across the drawbridge, through the open gates, and up into the tower. Her dad was busy making potions and spells for the king. “Hello Whiz, what are you doing here,” said dad happily. He gave her a quick hug and sat her on his tall chair. “Look what flew in my bedroom window just now,” said Whizardy Witch excitedly, putting the yellowed paper on the table in front of him. “I think I’ve found a hidden treasure map Dad!” Dad looked at it closely and saw the strange language. “We need a translation spell, to change the words into magic speech so we can read it,” said dad. “Have you got one?” Whizardy Witch asked hopefully. “No Whiz, but I do know someone who has. Come on, let’s go and get one shall we.” Dad took Whizardy Witch down the tower steps. Then, deep underground, in the hidden tunnels far beneath the castle, they finally reached a huge door. A sign read, KEEP OUT - PRIVATE. “Don’t worry about that,” said dad. He led her through the huge door into a big room filled with all sorts of magical experiments. At the back of the room, a tall wizard, in an even taller hat, hunched over a long bench. He was mixing potions and mumbling secret spells. “Excuse me for interrupting your work, Skyler,” said dad cautiously. “My daughter has found something important here and we need your help.” ‘Skyler the Great’ glanced up from his work, over the top of his glasses, and frowned. “Can’t you read?” he said menacingly. “Of course I can read,” said dad impatiently. He thrust the paper under the powerful wizard’s nose and nodded towards it. “Look at this will you? We think she’s found a hidden treas- ure map.” The wizard took one look and snatched the paper from dad’s hands. “Well, why didn’t you say so in the first place,” the wizard said excitedly. “This needs a translation spell, to change the words into magic speech so we can read it.” Dad and Whizardy Witch sighed. “We know!” they said. “Do you have one please?” Whizardy Witch asked hopefully. “Have one! What do you mean do I have one? I am the Great Skyler! Of course I have one. I have a whole book full of them,” the wizard snapped. He then rummaged around in his huge bookcase searching for the particular book of spells. “Ah, here it is,” he said, placing a tiny little book on the huge bench. “Why is it so small?” said Whizardy Witch? “All the best things come in small packages,” said the great wizard grumpily. “Didn’t you know that young Whizardy Witch?” The Great Skyler flicked through the pages until he found the spell he was looking for. He mumbled quietly so dad and Whizardy Witch could not hear. Then, he dipped his hands in some bright pink potion that turned instantly dark blue when he rubbed his fingers together. A brief flash and a puff of purple smoke changed the paper from parchment yellow into pure white. The words translated into perfect magic speech. “Wow!” Whizardy Witch said, impressed by the Great Sky- ler’s powers. “What does it say?” The Wizard smiled and showed the girl the paper. The Great Skyler read out the words, “If hidden treasure is all you seek, look closely there above your feet. Always keep yourself in mind, for treasures that you want to find.” “What does that mean?” Whizardy Witch asked confused. Dad laughed, “It’s called a riddle, Whiz. It means, that you are the greatest of all hidden treasures. And the world is there for you to explore.” “And, you don’t need to look any further than your own nose to find it,” said the Great Skyler knowingly. *** And that is the story of Whizardy Witch and the Treasure Map.
